Hotel Update This message comes from Lynn Feist today, 10/2/2001: "Marie, I can't believe the hotel situation around here. The Ramada and Sheraton are fully booked. The desk people suggested checking with them again in case of cancellations. The Extended Stay America (732-346-9366) which has a weekend rate going $79 + tax for one person or $84 + tax for 2. They have rooms available. Where are they? you ask. Picture an intersection with a traffic light in the middle. If you pass the corners driving in from 287 the Extended Stay is on your right, Ramada is on your left then the Sheraton is opposite Extended Stay on your right (diagonally across from the Ramada). The national # is 800-398-7829 but you may have to call the local one to get the rate. The desk clerk wasn't clear on that. The Red Roof Inn (732-248-9300)was $69.00 or $79 depending upon what beds were in the room. They are at 860 New Durham Rd near 287. The Sheraton near Woodbridge Center 732-634-3600 wants $109. The Clarion is less convenient and more $$. I figured I'd send you this in case anyone emails you looking for a place." Thanks, Lynn! Great job! Alene Kahn Kaufman reports that she was able to book a "Surf and Turf" rate of $99 at the SHERATON RARITAN CENTER through her travel agent. I phoned the hotel directly and was told that the rooms that qualify for that rate are already sold out. Nonetheless, I recommend asking a travel agent to give it a try anyway. Keep in mind that Reunions Unlimited reserved 10 rooms for us at the Sheraton at the rate of $169. There are other options. Lynn Feist writes that the RAMADA INN (732-661-1000) is situated directly across the highway from the Sheraton, and she negotiated a block of rooms there at $89 + per night. Just mention that you are with the "Colonia High School Class of 1971 Reunion" and you should be able to get that rate. Let me know if there are any difficulties along the way. Marla Pine Govern writes, "If you head north on I-287, there is a HOLIDAY INN in South Plainfield on Stelton Road, right off the interstate. I think they have a $79.00/night rate. There's another hotel right there, too - used to be a Howard Johnson's. I have NO idea what it is now. It's only about a 20 minute drive from the Holiday Inn to Raritan Center." Louis Miceli reports that there is an EXTENDED STAY SUITES (732-346-9366) down the block from the Raritan Center. Look for links to these hotels below. Bottom Line: It appears that economical rooms are not plentiful for the weekend of our reunion, so Make Your Reservations Early!
