You asked how I came to move to Hawaii. You can put
this in my bio if you're preparing one for the reunion. After HS I briefly attended Newark State college now known as Kean
College. It wasn't a good fit and the summer of '72 I decided to go to work for Eastern Airlines in the reservations /sales
department. This gave me the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, South America, Mexico, the Caribbean and
the US whenever I had time off from work. Early on I decided I wanted to move away from NJ only I wasn't quite sure where
I wanted to live.
Well, when Jeff and I married in September 18,
1976 (we've been married almost 30 years)we had a month long honeymoon which played out in this order: San Francisco, Hilo,
Hawaii (on the Big Island), Kaanapali Maui, Poipu Kauai, Honolulu Oahu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and then back to good
'ole NJ. To each place we traveled became a prospective location for us to consider as home. Every few
years we found ourselves revisiting Hawaii with an ever increasing fondness for the climate, the people, and the slower paced
rat race. Then back in 1988 we decided to make the move. The real estate market in NJ seemed promising for an early exit.
We were wrong because the declining market delayed our move until 1995. We made it here and never looked back.
It was a bit of a struggle in the beginning because
the jobs we secured were not what was promised and we realized we needed to add to our income or we'd be forced to move
back to the Mainland US. Hawaii is an expensive place to live. We established a home improvement and home repairs business
which kept us busy evenings and weekends. We've were lucky to have filled a niche so we left our original employers,
Our business, Professional Home Repairs, grows every day and we've been able to move from the apartment (condo)
which we first rented then bought, into a 3 BR 2 bath home in a wonderful neighborhood.
This July we're taking a summer vacation for an early
celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary. We'll be attending a wedding in Los Angeles and then we'll fly to Seattle
to board a cruise ship bound for Alaska. After taking a few extra days after the cruise to see Seattle we'll return home to
Hawaii. We usually make annual holiday trips back to NJ and PA to visit with family and friends. We've
planned around a Thanksgiving visit for this year.
Gee I do tend to ramble on when anyone asks about how
we got here. How about "we just love the place". Well, that's all the news from Hawaii for now. Stay well and please
keep in touch.
