TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY. I
have 2 children, a son and a daughter, that I raised by myself. I have 2 granddaughters, one I raised for about 7 years.
I’m hoping soon to find out I have another grandchild on the way (or maybe more than one).
My younger sister passed away in 04 and my father in
05.
WHAT IS YOUR OCCUPATION? Attorney
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THE YEARS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL? For
years I struggled with only a high school diploma. Because I was a single mom, my main career, if you can call it that, was
driving a school bus. A woman can’t make much money without more of an education.
I had started college in 1988 but stopped and
opened a daycare. Then I met Linda LoVell at our 20th reunion and she had 3 kids, a husband, a job AND she was attending college.
So, I decided to get off my lazy butt and was accepted by the University of Colorado—Boulder in 1994. In 1999 I was accepted by the
University of Denver College of Law and graduated in 2002.
Life wasn’t as peachy as I though it would be.
I found my age to be a big handicap, so I was forced to open my open law office. They never taught me how to run an office
in law school. So, I learned by the seat of my pants along with actually learning how to practice law.
I had dreamed of becoming a lawyer since I was 24 and
at 50 I realized my dream. Now I have no time for much else, except landscaping my house and weeding.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL MEMORIES OF HIGH SCHOOL? Most of my memories are of not going to school and cutting any class I could. I missed
80 days of school in our senior year and still ranked in the middle of the class—go figure.
